Dr. Von Hoff is Professor of Medicine, Molecular and Cellular Biology and Pathology, and Director of the Arizona Cancer Center at The University of Arizona. He is also Co-Director of Clinical Research for US Oncology (Nasdaq: USON). Dr. Von Hoff’s major interest is in the development of new anticancer agents. His laboratory interests and contributions have been in the area of in vitro drug sensitivity testing to individualize treatment for the patient, mechanisms of gene amplification, particularly of extrachromosomal DNA, and understanding of and targeting telomere maintenance mechanisms. He and his laboratory are now concentrating on discovery of new targets in pancreatic cancer. He was previously with the University of Texas, where he held a number of positions, including most recently, Clinical Professor, College of Pharmacy, Department of Cellular and Structural Biology and Clinical Professor, Division of Medical Oncology. During this period, he was also the Director for the Institute for Drug Development Cancer Therapy & Research Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Von Hoff has published more than 470 papers, 120 book chapters, and more than 800 abstracts. He is the immediate past President of the American Association for Cancer Research, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member and past board member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is founder and the Editor Emeritus of Investigational New Drugs - The Journal of New Anticancer Agents; an Associate Editor of Clinical Cancer Research; and Co-Editor of Oncology Spectrums. Dr. Von Hoff interned at Straight Medical, Moffitt Hospital, University of California, San Francisco, where he also served his Medical Residency. He is a graduate of Carroll College where he majored in Biology and Chemistry, and has an MD from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.
